For those of you that know the place the name
will conjure up thoughts of adventure, romance,
nostalgia or just plain family fun. Nestled in
the heart of Vallie Crucis this 200-year-old
farm is known to locals as the Frank Baird
Place. It has become home to Dutch Creek Trails,
the horseback riding experience of a
lifetime.
The business is owned and operated by Keith
and Tammy Ward along with their son Travis.
Natives of Watauga County, Keith and Tammy
started the business as a second income. It soon
became obvious that there was no way to
accommodate folks on a part time bases so Keith
quite his day job and jumped in with both feet.
There has been no looking back.
Give Dutch Creek Trails a call and see what
they have to offer. They will tell you about the
three basic rides they do. The 30-minute ride,
the 1-hour ride and the 2-hour ride. Ask what
else they offer. You’ll be told about wagon
rides around the hay field by the creek and
river or hayrides behind the old Farmall
tractor, which Keith found in a shed on the farm
and fixed up. Keith will tell you, his best
ideas have come from his guest so tell him what
you have in mind. These guys love what they do
and nothing pleases them better than pleasing
you. You will find out real quick that this is
not just another horse riding place.
